Ahhhh, the to-do list.
Do you have one? Me, I’ve always been a list maker. There’s just something that feels – so – good about writing things down, checking them off and having a sense of accomplishment.

I know there are several kinds of things you and I can use to keep our to-do lists on -- from electronic apps to good ole fashioned pad and paper. While I love to use technology for lots of things in life and business, my favorite to-do lists are still written down. I like to have a place to empty my mind of all the tasks, errands and ideas and to see them in front of me.

As women, we are all busy, right?
I know I am, and I bet you could say the same thing about yourself. I am usually pretty good with time management … unless … life throws me a curve ball. Then, through my own lack of planning or pure good ole procrastination things tend to sneak up on me.

The other day I had so many things to do, and time definitely got away from me. I began thinking to myself, “What’s my problem?” and then quickly realized the main source of frustration was my own lack of time management. I had over committed, was going a million miles a minute, and had forgotten to pull back and recharge my own batteries. I knew I had to make some changes and that I wanted to tackle this “time management” beast and get back on track.

It’s not easy being grateful all the time. But it’s when you feel least thankful that you are most in need of what gratitude can give you. ~ Oprah

I’m definitely a planner. I like to know what’s coming. It’s a gift, but on the flip side I can also get a little stressed when I get too many things going at once.

I have a confession. Last week I got myself all worked up into a frenzy. I had errands to run, groceries to buy, meetings to prepare for, proposals to finish and a to-do list to rival all lists.

Hoodies, changing leaves and chilly weather.
Football, warm cider and a gentle slowing down.
I love this time of year.
Seasons change.
We change.
Life changes.

I have been through many changes this year. My husband, Michael, and I bought a new house, I left my job in May then launched my business in June…and that’s just the short version.

While it’s been exciting it has also been a bit intimidating. At times my mind has been alive with new ideas where I felt like I could take on the world, and at other times I’ve thought, “What in the world am I doing?”

Can you relate?

"Without enough sleep, we all become two-year olds." This quote by JoJo Jensen perfectly describes how I was feeling a few weeks ago. I was laying in bed wide awake tossing and turning. My mind was racing thinking, "I just want to sleep like a baby. Why can't I shut my brain down? UGH!"

Have you ever tried to fall asleep only to find yourself laying wide awake with a million thoughts running through your head? Do they sound like this? “I need to do laundry, pick up milk, call my client back, plan for Thursday’s meeting, thaw out meat for dinner, and pick up a birthday present.”

Let’s face it, life gets busy. I know it, and you know it. It is easy to let our priorities drift away from our true passions. Before you know it you are doing and not living. When this happens, what do you do? For me, I find it’s best to step back, take a little breather and regroup.

In my early years as a professional I allowed so many things like work, holidays, extra-curricular activities, and other things dictate what I did with my time. Can you relate? I have even had times when I was working over sixty hours per week. What did I get for all that sacrifice? Burnout. Bad health. A craving for something different!
